RICHARD LOUNDS - DRAMATURG

Richard Lounds is a dramaturg, performer and musician with experience in editing and collaborative writing.

Recently, he has worked with Charades Theatre Company as a dramaturg, researcher and co-writer on their new musical which opens Off-Broadway in Summer 2024. The show concerns the life of Alexander Fleming, his discovery of penicillin, and the very real crisis facing modern medicine as antibiotics become less and less effective.

Richard trained in Psychology (MSc, GMBPsS) and is passionate about mental health and its representation on stage and in film. His own research focused on gender and LGBTQ+ issues in psychology and the health system. He actively seeks out projects where this passion, expertise and research experience can be of use to directors and collaborators.

As a performer, Richard has enjoyed a varied career with particular experience of singing, actor-musicianship and puppetry. With performance experience ranging from opera (L’Etoile du Nord, Musiikkitalo, Finland, 2017) to children’s theatre (Mr Men and Little Miss On Stage, UK and International Tour, 2019-2020), he brings a broad range of interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills as a dramaturg and collaborator.

Before training in theatre, Richard worked as an editorial intern for Penguin Books where he gained proofreading and editing skills.
